How do you GROW your HABITS?

Slow down your life for a second and take a look into your MOMENTUM.

MOMENTUM is that force that keeps you moving in a certain direction, propelling you forward to accomplish your CHOICES.

HABITS, on the other hand, are the actions or patterns of behavior that you repeat regularly both intentionally and subconsciously that cause your choice to become a reality.

Suzie has been HABIT STACKING for years. In 2023 she is choosing a new HABIT of dancing every day.  She chooses to dance for 5 minutes a day, which makes this a MINI HABIT and it is so easy to check off that she did it.  She normally dances a bit longer because she’s got MOMENTUM and that helps her continue successfully each day.

MINI HABITS are important because they are an easy accomplishment. Begin by choosing to do something in the direction of your new BIG GOAL for only 5 minutes a day and a few things will happen.  

  • You will prove to yourself that you can do it.
  • You grow your “muscles” for it in the process.
  • You will find yourself “in the mode” and do it a bit longer which reinforces and strengthens your HABIT.

As of January 1, 2023, Dan made a CHOICE to return to the weight he was at his wedding. He has gained 50 pounds over the last 37 years and has chosen to lose that 50 pounds in 52 weeks.  That is his CHOICE, what he desires to have MOMENTUM towards.  Now he must set the HABITS that will promote the CHOSEN MOMENTUM.

Here are his top 5 new HABITS to align his life rhythms with his CHOICE:

  • Walk over 10,000 steps daily
  • Drink a gallon of water daily
  • Track his eating with the “Lose it app” staying under 1800 calories daily
  • Have 3 workouts per week
  • Make his HABITS accountable to Suzie

At the time of this writing he is entering the third week of January and he has 45 pounds to go.  He has reached a 10% MOMENTUM mark. Celebrate!

When it comes to personal development whether diet, health, sleep, stress, relationships, growth, or mindset, building momentum through the formation of good HABITS is crucial. By consistently taking small but meaningful actions towards a desired outcome, you can gradually build MOMENTUM that will carry you forward. For example, if our goal is to exercise more, you can start by going for a short walk every day and gradually increase the duration and intensity over time. By making this a GROWING HABIT, you will be more likely to stick with it and build MOMENTUM towards your life CHOICE.

So if you want to have MOMENTUM in your life, you must CHOOSE HABITS. Start by looking at ones you can make into MINI HABITS and over time GROW them. That is MOMENTUM.
